WELCOME

Welcome to my teaching portfolio. My name is Annelise Mozzoni and I am an 8th grade English teacher at Siloam Springs Middle School. I have a Bachelors of Arts in English with a concentration in creative writing, and a Masters of Arts in Teaching both from the University of Arkansas. Woo pig!

My aim as an educator is to guide diverse learners in the exploration of identity and empathy in the world around them. The study of literature and writer’s craft offers such a rich opportunity for both. I have taught at the National Writing Project’s Young Writers Camp for the past four years in schools across Northwest Arkansas. Along with my current teaching job and student teaching, I have worked with writers from the age of eight all the way up to eighteen. Most of my learners read and write with unabashed enthusiasm, but do not consider themselves writers. That is what has drawn me to English education.

I position my learners as artists and writers in my classroom. I believe by doing so, they learn authentically about literature and writer’s craft. In my four years of experience, I have planned and led writers’ workshops, Socratic circles, and close readings to create a space where learners can participate in the discourse community of writers.

Inside and outside of the classroom I am a writer. I have had several poems published. I am transparent about my writing process and creative life with my learners. I read, write and revise elbow to elbow with them as we do this important work together. This portfolio of my work and experiences demonstrates how I fulfill my purpose as an English educator.
