One Thing I Know to be True
By James Bauer
People leave. They always will. We’re lucky if we keep friends for more than a few years. People drift. People move on. It isn’t always our fault.
The friends we make in high school will not last forever. We go through cycles every year, and even if we manage to keep these friends throughout the entirety of high school, graduation separates us.
We are separated by our aspirations, by our dreams. And in many ways we are alone. We must trust ourselves to be there. Because relationships don’t last forever, not right now.
We have good friends, best friends, and when we look back on high school, we’ll wonder how those best friends are, because we won’t know. High school reunions remind us of the lost friendships and “mistakes”.
